This trip provides an opportunity to see Borneo’s wildlife up close as well as some interesting aspects of local culture.

Travelling around Sabah, you’ll witness remarkable sceneries including the stunning sunrise from Mount Kinabalu and the rainforest in Danum Valley.
As you move further down Borneo’s south, there are more places to discover: Tanjung Puting- the world’s best place to see orangutans, Loksado with quaint rural sceneries and Banjarmasin where a unique floating market takes place every morning.

Day 1 Arrive Kota Kinabalu

Pick up: from the airport upon your arrival

Upon arrival in Kota Kinabalu you will be met at the airport and transported to your hotel.

Day 2Kota Kinabalu - Mount Kinabalu

This morning you will be picked up from your hotel and transported to Kinabalu Park for an adventurous experience on Mt. Kinabalu. Upon reaching the park, check in and register at the Kinabalu Park’s office and begin your climb up to Pendant hut. Ascend for approximately 5-8 hours (depending on individual fitness level) through diverse forest which is home to many species of plants. No special mountaineering skills are required, but a certain level of fitness is essential.

Climbers are required to attend a mandatory Via Ferrata briefing upon arrival at Pendant Hut. The rest of the afternoon is free to enjoy this captivating setting and prepare for tomorrow’s summit climb and via ferrata.

Overnight in a simple dormitory-style accommodation (bunk beds). Upgrade to private room on request.


Day 3Via Ferrata - Mount Kinabalu

Set off for the challenging summit trek in the dark hours of the morning in time to catch a mesmerising sunrise (approx. 2.5-3.5 hours). The views from the summit really are spectacular and it makes the whole adventure worth it.

After enjoying the summit views, descent back to Sayat Sayat, the starting point of the Via Ferrata. Walk the Torq is an easy route which encompasses a Monkey Bridge, a Tyrolean traverse and a balancing beam – highest point at 3,520m a.s.l. This route takes approximately 2 to 3 hours. The ropes and ladders of Mt Kinabalu ‘s via ferratas allow anyone to experience the most spectacular scenery.

After the via ferrata experience, descent back to Penand Hut for breakfast and trek down to the Timpohon Gate where a mini bus will be waiting to return you to Kota Kinabalu.

Day 4Fly to Lahad Datu - Danum Valley

Early morning transfer to Kota Kinabalu airport for a short flight to Lahad Datu.

Upon arrival in Lahad Datu you will be met at the airport and driven for about 2.5.hrs though selectively logged forest to Borneo Rainforest Lodge, located beside the Danum River on the edge of 438 square kilometres of untouched lowland rainforest. If you are lucky, you can spot wildlife along the way.

Upon arrival at the lodge, proceed to your room. After lunch you will be taken on a guided trekking along the Nature Trail for an introduction to the rainforest ecosystem. This evening, after a slide presentation on Danum Valley Conservation Area, you will join a night safari on an open-air truck. Using a powerful spot light the guide will point out nocturnal species.

Day 5Danum Valley

Rise early this morning and enjoy a whole day in the beautiful Danum Valley. A short walk from the lodge will bring you to the Canopy Walkway, suspended 26 metres above the forest floor. The view is magical. In the early mornings, mist hangs over the rainforest, forming a white veil from which only the tallest treetops emerge.

After breakfast you will climb up the trail which brings you the View Point. You will stop along the way to discover the huge variety of flora and fauna. Close to the summit, you will explore an ancient Kadazandusun burial site. Upon reaching the View Point you will rewarded with a fantastic view over the valley. On your return, enjoy a refreshing dip in the natural Jacuzzi pool.

After lunch enjoy an extended hike to look for orangutan, birds and other wildlife along nature trails, or join a relaxing session of water tubing down the Danum River. As, darkens falls, enjoy a guided night jungle walk in search in search of nocturnal species.

Day 6Danum Valley - Fly to Kota Kinabalu

This morning enjoy a short jungle walk. After lunch, check out and transfer to Lahad Datu airport for your return flight to Kota Kinabalu. Arrive and transfer to your hotel.

Day 7Fly to Jakarta

At leisure until transfer to the airport for your flight to Jakarta. Arrive in Jakarta and transfer by shuttle bus to your hotel near to the airport.

Day 8Fly to Pangkalan Bun - Tanjung Puting National Park

Transfer by shuttle bus to Jakarta airport for your flight to Pangkalan Bun.

On arrival in Pangkalan Bun you will be driven for about 30 minutes to Kumai port where you will board the traditional “Klotok” river boat, which will take you up river to Tanjung Puting National Park.

In the peaceful afternoon, we will slowly explore the Sekonyer River in search of primates. The traditional Klotok is a traditional two-storeyed wooden river boat equipped with inboard or outboard motor, and is specially built to navigate through shallow waters and narrow sections of the river. The friendly boat crew consists of Capitan, cook and tour guide. The Klotok is very simple but equipped with mattress with blankets, pillows and mosquito nets. A very basic toilet is located at the back of the boat.

Day 9Tanjung Puting National Park

With a private Klotok for the entire tour, you are free to decide what time you would like to depart in the morning and the itinerary is flexible. You can explore the Orangutan Rehabilitation Centre of Pondok Tanguy, to witness the feeding time of the new ex-captive orangutans.

Or you can journey up the creek to Camp Leakey where the older orangutans are reintroduced into the rainforest. At the Camp Leakey you will have the opportunity to walk in the rainforest with your guide and spot a variety of wildlife such as orangutans, gibbons, macaque and birds. In the afternoon you can visit the feeding station to see the feeding time of the rehabilitated orangutans. Before dusk return to the Klotok for dinner and spend the night onboard

Day 10Depart Pangkalan Bun

After breakfast, cruise down the river for Kumai port. Upon arrival in Kumai you will be transported to Pangkalan Bun to catch your outbound flight.
